Admissions Brochure for the Joint Training Doctoral Program between the University of Nottingham Nin

In order to cultivate high-level talents with an international perspective and a close integration of production, education and research, strengthen the scientific research cooperation between the university and the institute, and make use of the existing academic advantages, resources and facilities of the university and the institute to achieve complementary advantages in talent training, Ningbo Institute of Materials and University of Nottingham Ningbo At the end of 2017, a cooperation agreement was signed, and the joint doctoral training program (DTP) was launched. The main enrollment disciplines are: new material science, advanced manufacturing, motor and drive technology, and composite materials. Both parties will develop an innovative doctoral training system in the above-mentioned four fields, and cultivate high-level doctoral talents with an international perspective.

The University of Nottingham Ningbo China will waive the 3-year (36-month) tuition fee for the joint training of doctoral students (the tuition fee is 90,000 yuan/year). Ningbo Institute of Materials will provide subsidy support such as stipends, room and board allowances for doctoral students during their studies. The admitted doctoral students will be able to enjoy the relevant treatment of the doctoral students of the University of Nottingham Ningbo and Ningbo Materials at the same time.

The doctoral students of this project will be registered at the University of Nottingham Ningbo, and their student status will be the University of Nottingham Ningbo. The degree will be awarded by the University of Nottingham. In 2018, the first batch of joint training doctoral students will be enrolled in September 2018, and the second batch of joint training doctoral students will be enrolled in December 2018. The enrollment target for 2019 is 10 (tentative), and the enrollment year for joint training doctoral students in 2019 is September 2019.


Our group admissions areas:

New material science, composite materials: design and synthesis of nanomaterials, gas sensors, electrocatalysis, photocatalysis, etc.


The majors to be recruited can be: the majors under the first-level discipline of chemistry (including organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, polymer chemistry and physics); the majors under the first-level discipline of materials science and engineering (including materials physics and chemistry) , material processing engineering, materials science and other professional directions).



Admission requirements:

The admission criteria and application process for doctoral students are subject to the policies and requirements of the University of Nottingham Ningbo China.


● Language requirements: IELTS 6.5 (≥6.0 in any element); or PTE Academic 62 (min 55); or TOEFL (IBT) 87 (minimum 20 in Speaking and 19 in all other elements).

Cultivation method:

● Course study: The joint training for doctoral students is held at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China, and the course study is taught in English.

● Mentor team: The University of Nottingham Ningbo China and Ningbo Institute of Materials Science will select mentors respectively and jointly direct doctoral students.

● Scientific research platform: Ningbo Institute of Materials provides research platforms, laboratory resources, the teaching platform of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and the accommodation conditions of Ningbo Institute of Materials, etc. At the same time, it is ensured that the joint training doctoral students can enjoy the library and other corresponding resources during their study.

● Application object: Fresh/previous master graduates, especially outstanding undergraduate graduates can also apply.


● How to apply: Contact the Graduate Department of Ningbo Materials Institute to submit your application intention, and submit all application materials to the Graduate Department of Ningbo Materials Institute.


● Application date: The application deadline for the first batch of joint training doctoral students in 2019 is March 15, 2019, and the application deadline for the second batch of joint training doctoral students is June 14, 2019. In 2019, the admission date of joint training doctoral students is September 2019.
